Inspiring young people through drama

Dorchester Youth Theatre (DYT) is based at Dorchester Corn Exchange and aims to provide opportunities for young people to help them extend their creativity and imagination.  We want to inspire our young people through drama which in turn helps them to develop their personalities, gain self-confidence and work together in an atmosphere of trust and support. We like to challenge our members in performance and rehearsals resulting in extraordinary results.

There are no auditions, we are an inclusive theatre group. Our weekly sessions consist of theatre skills workshops, drama games, improvisation and script work leading to performances during the year.

As well as working towards performances and showcases, members also get involved in community activities such as Dorchester Festival and Dorchester Carnival and every summer DYT organises a week long theatre project – Combined Arts Week (CAW) where up to 40 young people help to create, and perform in a large scale performance, with singing, dancing and drama. There are also opportunities to work with the production team on set, technical, backstage, FOH and other associated roles.

We are very proud of DYT which has grown into a strong youth theatre company which encourages team work, friendship and above all fun! We have five sessions for young people aged between 6 and 16+, meeting every Monday evening for the primary, juniors, intermediates and senior company groups and every Thursday for the Performance Company.  This is during term time and held at the Dorchester Corn Exchange.

Fees for DYT are £85 per term for senior £90 for performance companies. £60 for junior and primary sessions.  £65 for intermediates. (Second sibling is half price).

Anyone thinking of joining, are welcome to come along and try their first session for free.
